Three cards each, three lives each. Your hand is worth the highest total you can make in one suit: aces are 11, face cards 10, the rest their number. Three of a kind is worth 30 and a half.
On your turn draw the top card of the deck or the top discard, then discard one. You cannot put back the card you just took from the pile.
Knock instead of drawing when you think you have the highest hand. Everyone else gets one more turn, then all hands are shown. The lowest hand loses a life. If the knocker is lowest, or tied for it, the knocker is caught: only the knocker pays, and the others are safe.
House rule. A caught knocker loses:
Thirty-one in hand wins on the spot: everyone else loses a life.
Lose all three lives and you are out. Last one at the table wins.
